As of 2024, Redbox has permanently shut down all rental operations. Most kiosks have been removed from stores and decommissioned. If you still have a rental disc, you can keep it as there's no way to process returns and their servers are offline.

On June 28th, 2024, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after failing to pay employees and vendors for over 4 weeks. CSSE listed debts of $970 million and consolidated assets of $414 million as of March 31st, 2024.
The following month of the initial bankruptcy filing, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment started the conversion to Chapter 7 bankruptcy, involving the liquidation of its assets. All Redbox services, including its streaming and mobile app, were shut down.
A court filing during early April announced a foreclosure sale of Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment and its subsidiaries, including Redbox, scheduled for April 23, 2025 in New York, NY.
In October 2025, Grove Street Partners submitted a $100 million offer to purchase Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment's intellectual property litigation assets, according to a court filing.
